En opnieuw is er ophef over het scoring systeem van de judges. Dana White is zacht gezegd ’shocked’ bij de 30-27 score van Ortiz vs. Griffin II.
“The fight could have gone either way, (But) 30-27? I mean that’s crazy. for anybody to call that fight 30-27, you’re out of your mind.”
Volgens White ging de eerste ronde gelijk op, won Ortiz duidelijk de tweede ronde (toch kreeg Griffin deze ronde van 2 judges met 10-9) en was de laatste ronde duidelijk voor Griffin.
White realiseert zich dat er behoefte is aan verbetering van het score systeem, maar maakt duidelijk dat het proces niet in zijn handen ligt.
“You should see the emails I get; ‘You scumbag. You’re just like Don King.’ I get literally hundreds of them. It’s crazy, but that’s what people think.”
White roept fans die hopen op herziening van het score systeem op contact op te nemen met de athletic commissions.
“The reality is you guys have to call Keith Kizer. Call Keith Kizer and asked him what we can to do to fix this judging and scoring. These athletic commissions need to start looking at this and figuring out what they’re going to do. It’s wrong.”
