Voormalig UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson heeft gister via zijn weblog bekend gemaakt dat hij gaat stoppen als professionele Mixed Martial Arts vechter.
Eerder deze maand kwam het nieuws al naar buiten dat Quinton Jackson gaat spelen in de nieuwe A-Team movie. UFC president Dana White was woest op Quinton Jackson en snapte niet waarom hij een filmster wou worden terwijl Quinton Jackson miljoenen kan verdienen in de UFC.
Via de weblog van Quinton Jackson liet hij gisteren weten dat hij klaar was met de UFC. Quinton Jackson begint zijn bericht met “The UFC has done a lot for me but I think I have done more for them”.
Toen Quinton Jackson vorig jaar opgepakt was wegens rijden onder invloed was Dana White de gene die zijn borgsom betaalde om hem vrij te krijgen. De twee waren goede vrienden en hadden bijna alles voor elkaar over, maar nu is het toch echt gedaan met de samenwerking en dus ook de vriendschap.
Quinton Jackson heeft veel aanmerkingen over het managment van de UFC. Volgens Quinton Jackson werd hij gepusht om een gevecht aan te gaan met Chuck Liddell in 2007 terwijl bijna niemand in Amerika wist wie Quinton Jackson was. Na het gevecht met Chuck Liddell werd er zonder overleg met Quinton Jackson een gevecht geregelt met Dan Henderson.
“Dana went on the Internet and mocked me because of that and I still did nothing, Dana and I finally talked and we made up and then after that he went back on the Internet and said some [expletive] and he was talking bad about the movie, when information is not even supposed to be released …
My body has been getting so many different injuries that I won’t be able to fight until my 40s and neither do I want to fight that long. So I feel like my second career could be in jeopardy. So I’m done fighting. I’ve been getting negative reviews from the dumb ass fans that don’t pay my bills or put my kids though college. So I’m hanging it up.”
Gisteravond heeft Dana White gereageerd op het bericht van Quinton Jackson tijdens een radio show. Dana White geeft aan dat Quinton Jackson niet altijd goede keuzes maakt en dat hij zich gedraagt als een klein kind.
“I just found out. Rampage first and foremost is a friend of ours and we really like Rampage…I am not going to get into the battle of who did what for who and all that stuff. We’ve done a lot for him and yes he has been there and fought. The guys come in here and that’s what they do, they fight. They are fighters. We give them fights and they make money, and we make money and that’s the way it works…
Rampage is a grown man. He is acting like a baby right now but he is a grown man. If he wants to be in the movie business, Rampage, good luck to you man. I hope you make it big, and I am not being sarcastic, because Rampage Jackson is a guy that I actually like and Rampage Jackson is a guy that I know doesn’t always make the best decisions. I hope the movie thing works out for him, if that is what he truly wants to do and what he thinks his career is, I wish him all the luck in the world. I like Rampage, I have no ill will towards him whatsoever…We’ve got no problems. We are in the fight business, we make fights, that’s what we do. There’s always guys that are injured, guys that have conflicting dates, stuff comes up, movie roles… there is something every day…I have said this for years, there is one thing guaranteed when I get out of bed: bad stuff is going to happen today. It happens every day and its my job to deal with it.”
Zal Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson echt stoppen als een Mixed Martial Arts vechter of zou hij dit zeggen in een opwelling? Ik hoop niet dat de UFC een grote vechter als Quinton Jackson gaat verliezen.
