UFC vechter Antoni Hardonk is afgelopen week bijna overvallen toen hij aan het werk was als uitsmijter bij een discotheek in Las Vegas. Twee mannen benaderden Antoni Hardonk voor kleingeld, toen Antoni zijn portemonnee pakte vroegen de overvallers om al zijn geld en sieraden af te staan.
Een van de overvallers trok een mes en bedreigde Antoni Hardonk. Antoni bleef kalm en na een korte ruzie gingen de overvallers er vandoor zonder enige buit.
“I’ve worked security in the clubs and had some incidents there when people are fighting and you have to break up a fight, or somebody’s drunk and you have to guide them out, but this time, they wanted to have my money, they wanted to rob me, and that was a new experience for me,”
“I don’t think they expected my reaction, most people would have freaked out, but there was nothing in my mind or my body that said I was going to hand the money to those guys. It just doesn’t feel right to me. So then they started hesitating and they walked off.”
Samen met een vriend van Antoni Hardonk besloten ze terug te gaan naar het appartement in Las Vegas. Op weg naar huis zag Antoni Hardonk de overvallers lopen, een vriend van Antoni Hardonk belde gelijk de politie. Antoni wou niet wachten op de politie en nam het heft in eigen handen.
Antoni Hardonk rende op de overvallers af en besprong 1 van de mannen. Door de val brak het mes af. De andere 2 overvallers rende weg, een achtervolging volgde. Antoni Hardonk was niet in staat om de op de vlucht geslagen overvallers te pakken.
Eenmaal terug bij de auto was de politie gearriveerd en werd 1 van de overvallers in de boeien geslagen.
“The cops think the same guys robbed three people the week before,” said Hardonk. “I think they were very young guys and they weren’t very secure about what they were doing. I hope it scared them and makes them think twice before they do something like that again.”
Misschien kan Antoni Hardonk na UFC een carrière als superheld beginnen:
“Maybe if I quit fighting in the UFC I can buy a costume and run around in the dark, but I think the cops can do a much better job than I do. I was just there at the right time to help somebody, so it was good.”
